Conception
Blocks, Tumbling is a playful take on the traditional Tumbling Block. I've often thought that block name was a misnomer, since Tumbling Blocks so often appear so static, stacked in rigid rows. I wanted to make blocks that actually tumbled. After seeing an unnamed graphic online showing shapes falling from a void, I decided to recreated the idea in quilt form.

Creation

Blocks, Tumbling was designed by hand and on Adobe Illustrator. Blocks were created using English paper piecing techniques as well as needle turn applique. I used Architextures prints by Carolyn Friedlander for Robert Kaufman Fabrics as well as Kona Cotton Solids. It is filled with Warm & Natural Batting and quilted with Aurifil 50 wt thread.
