Conception

 

Smokeset was inspired by finding the positive in a bad situation. During the Northern California wildfires of 2020, smoke drifted across states and settled in my Utah mountain valley. We complained and coughed all day long, but then when we looked up at the end of the day and were blown away with the incredible colors in the sky. I wanted to capture the gradient in a striking way.

Creation

Smokeset was designed on Adobe Illustrator and is traditionally pieced. I used 45 Kona solids for all fabric elements, Warm & Natural batting, and Aurifil thread to piece and quilt. Quilting is machine quilted.
