This quilt came about from a feeling of helplessness in the face of police violence against Black Americans and a desire to support the Black Lives Matter movement without taking the microphone from those whose voices need to be heard. I designed this quilt for the purpose of raising money to benefit organizations that work to promote racial justice and to dismantle systemic racism and white supremacy.
Rise Up was designed on Adobe Illustrator and is entirely foundation paper pieced. I used Kona and American Made Brand solids for all fabric elements, Warm & Natural batting, and Aurifil thread to piece and quilt. Quilting is both machine and hand quilting.
Life Outside the Studio
Rise Up lives on the front window of my house. Patterns are available for sale in my shop with 100% of proceeds being donated to Color of Change and Showing Up for Racial Justice.
